Valentine Ghost

Valentine Ghost
Valentine Ghost / Rachel Rose

It was 1995 and I was 16 and had my first boyfriend, I’ll call him James. James was 18 and had a 77 Charger and took me out to the Valentines dance at our high school. We had fun and James promised to have me home at 10. We said our goodbyes and headed home. We got stuck by a wreck and was running a little late. As we approached Webb road it got so foggy. We slowed down and thought we saw car lights pulled off the side of the road.

In the road stood a girl in a pink old fashioned looking dress with a crown on and it looked like blood all over her dress. A guy was laying on the ground. James pulled above them and jumped out. As I opened my door I heard James say, “Where they go? What happened?”. I approached the end of the car where James stood and the other car was gone and the people were gone.

We both got back into the car and were confused. We never said a word till we got to my driveway and James said, “Was that real? Were we dreaming?”

We never told anyone about that night. I did a few years later after the Internet was big and found an article about a wreck in that area where on Valentine’s day the boy wrecked and was decapitated and the girl lived but was in an Asylum, but committed suicide the year we saw the ghost. I will never forget that Valentine’s night!

A Foggy Night in March

A Foggy Night In March
A Foggy Night In March / V.E McNeally

It was March 13, 2002, me and two of my friends was walking home from my house down to the store a mile down the road. It was right after school at about 4:30 in daylight. Being March it was very windy and rainy but the rain had stopped at noon and it was a very pretty afternoon.

Kelly was telling us about her birthday party plans. Ashlee stopped and looked over at the small park. I asked her what was wrong and she said she heard something. We arrived at the store and got us some snack food for Friday night and started to walk back. When we reached my street the entire street was covered in a thick fog. We tried to walk through it. I touched something. I called out ” Kelly, Ash is that you?”

The girls responded and they were behind me. Kelly flipped her phone light on and in front of me was black and white scary looking ghostly thing. Then a car light shined, the ghost disappeared and so did the fog. Mr. Dent’s black truck was in front of us. Needless to say, we ran to my house.

7 years later I saw that same fog and ghost again this time I was 21 and in college. I drove through it and that ghost appeared in front of me. The ghost was the creepiest thing ever. I blew the horn and it and the fog disappeared. I’m in my thirties now but my parents still live on Barrett road. I haven’t seen it again.

This isn’t my story and I didn’t witness it but my mom told me about it. I’m not really sure but I believe it was a Fall night around 10:00, about 10 years ago, my mom was out on the porch talking on the phone to my aunt. I was at my computer and my sister was watching TV. My mom shouted for us to come outside. My sister went to her and I heard them both run in the hallway. My sister ran over to our sliding door and looked.

“Where did he go? He disappeared.” I heard my mom say.

“There is nobody walking up the road.” I heard my sister say.

“What are you talking about?” I asked.

“I was out talking on the phone when I saw a man wearing a white t-shirt packing something in his hand and a lantern in the other hand. He had on a baseball cap but when he got to our mailbox he just disappeared.” My mom explained while being freaked out.

“That’s spooky,” I said.

“I’ll call Jenny and see if she saw him,” my mom said while dialing the phone.

When she got off the phone she told us that the neighbor didn’t see anything but a light shining in our old driveway. We couldn’t see the light but she could. We never did see that Ghost again but our house has plenty of stories to tell, but maybe another day and time.

CHH Hallway Ghost

I was with my daughter at Cabell Huntington Hospital sitting in the ultrasound waiting room. I saw plain as day a dark-haired child walk down the hall. The side of the waiting room against the hall was glass and I saw this little boy in a red and white striped shirt, who looked like a normal living kid, walk behind where a couple was sitting. I could still see the top of this kid’s head behind the couple, but by the time he got to where he should have been completely seen again, he had disappeared. Poof Gone!

I ran out in the hallway to see if there was a door or hall or somewhere where this kid could have managed to go without me seeing, but nothing. There was nowhere for him to have gone. I even walked the way he came from and never did see him. I was beyond Spooked!

The House Built From The Streets

I was in the sixth grade, maybe ten or eleven years old, my family and I had moved into a house in Princeton. It was an older home, I am almost a hundred percent positive it was built from the bricks of Mercer Street. The town was a part of the path of The Civil War Trails, so you could imagine the stuff it had seen in its day.

I had woke up one morning due to how cold it had gotten. I stepped out of my room and into the hallway to where the thermostat was. The upstairs was built with a small hallway, my room was on the right, straight across from that was my brother’s room, and in between both was our bathroom. The hallway was met with a set of steps, opposite to the bathroom, that had three stairs down and connected to a platform, facing towards the right, and had about 15 more stairs descending to the foyer.

When I woke up with the chills, I stood in the hallway and looked to the right where the steps were, and I saw a lady standing there dressed in a long white tattered dress. She was pale, with long strands of black hair, and for some reason, she stood there shoeless, with her hands clenched tight into fists.

Of course, me being as young as I was, I was terrified.

Haunted Welcome Center

In the early morning hours of September 9, 2018, my family and I were on our way home from vacation in Florida and my husband decided he was too tired to drive anymore so he pulled over at the I-64 Welcome Center. I was frustrated because we were only about an hour and forty-five minutes from home and I just wanted to get home to my bed. Nevertheless, I went to sleep for a while and woke at about 3 am having to go to the bathroom.

As I walked towards the bathroom I noticed there were only two other cars in the lot, one that had been sitting beside us and was empty when we pulled up, and another that a woman was leaving as she made her way to the bathroom also. I went into the first stall when I entered the bathroom and the other woman went in the stall right next to mine. She exited the stall before me and went to the sinks. I approached the sinks she asked if I had any change I could spare and I told her no. I didn’t have anything on me and she said she understood and left.

I was finishing up drying my hands I heard what sounded like footsteps and I turned and looked around but did not see anyone and there was only one door in and out of the bathroom but the footsteps sounded like they were coming from the other end. As I was looking towards the end of the bathroom the faucet at the far end came on, these faucets are the type that are motion activated. I ran out of the bathroom and woke my husband up and told him we needed to go home now.

Fort Mulligan

Fort Mulligan
Fort Mulligan / Stock Photo

Fort Mulligan located in Petersburg, WV is a beautiful spot with a lovely view of the town itself. It sets above the Grant Memorial Hospital and thankfully, can be visited without much interference from other people. My mother and I have always studied the paranormal and since I was a child, have been “sensitive”.

We decided one day to “investigate” the Fort and I was more than eager to go since I love anything paranormal and am also a history buff (reenactor for 18 years). We go up and decided to get an overall feel for the place. I’ve been up many times, but this time it was a feeling that we shouldn’t be there like we were almost trespassing. I shrugged it off as we continued on inside.

My mother decided it best to walk the main trail around and while we were walking her and I both heard what sounded like someone walking behind us. I turned around several times but seen nothing. We would start walking again and they could clearly hear the sound pick back up. This continued on until we reached the back side of the fort right passed the “Sally Port”.

We heard what sounded like a distinct “tap tap tap tap” of a drum. My mother and I both were stunned and decided it was best to do an EVP session. After we compiled our findings we were surprised and excited to hear a response.

My mother said, “Are you the one playing the drums?” Within 2-3 seconds a clear voice responds, “I am.”

We continued on the trail which leads inside of the fort and did our last EVP session of the day. My mother did an EVP session and asked, “Is there anything you would like to say, anything at all?”

You could hear what sounded like someone walking through snow, the “crunch” of the snow could be clearly heard (we were there during the summer) and after about 5 seconds a gruff stern voice says, “GET OUT!”

None of the pictures showed anything, but those EVPs are something I think about almost every day.

Fallout 76 with WV Monsters / West Virginia Ghosts

Fallout 76 is the latest post-apocalyptic game from Bethesda Game Studios. The game is planned to be released in November 2018 and will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and the PC. This will be the first online multiplayer game by Bethesda Game Studios and will not feature any human non-player characters, all human characters will be other players.

The player character exits the Vault on “Reclamation Day” as part of a plan to re-colonize the Wasteland.” – Wikipedia

Fallout 76 will feature popular landmarks and monsters from throughout West Virginia. This will be a great opportunity for dark tourism in the state and to inform people of our horrific folklores and legends.

We have received numerous story submissions in the past on “The White Thing”, however, each story has a different description of this insane West Virginia monster. One submission described the monster larger than a dog but with four eyes, while another describes it as a large white bear. It has been witnessed to leap 10 feet in the air onto a hillside in Ragland, WV. Others in New Cumberland, WV have heard it let out a terrible scream.

Snarly Yow

Snarly Yow
Mongrel from Fallout 4 is said to be the Snarly Yow / Fallout 4

The Snarly Yow is described as a large black dog with a grotesque mouth, large fangs, and a howl like a werewolf. The Snarly Yow traces back to tales told by German settlers during the 1700s in the Potomac Valley in the mountains around Harpers Ferry. Although it has been described as a physical monster, it resembles more that of a hellhound, a demonic dog. Reports stated that when an experienced hunter came across the Snarly Yow, he shot at the monster, however, the bullets passed right through it. Although we have no stories on the Snarly Yow, we do have several Werewolf-like stories, such as the “Demon Creature“.

Empty Grave

Empty Grave
Cemetery / Tiffy

I use to live in Wayne County WV. I grew up in a holler. At the head of our holler was a cemetery and my friends and I would walk to it a lot. We were there so much that we knew every name on the tombstones and we often played games.

My friend Amee always liked to play around the big round tree near the Johnson family. It was said that the whole family was murdered by the father, John Johnson. They all died in August of 1970. Well, one day we headed up there to play, we loved the old shed. Laying on Linda Johnson’s tombstone was a red rose. All the years playing out there we had never seen flowers on any of that family’s graves. I placed the flower in my hair and we played.

It was late August, 8 days later, we returned to the cemetery to find John Johnson’s grave had been dug up. We looked at it and seen what looked like a piece of the coffin lid. We ran home and told my mom. Our parents went and investigated it. The grave was empty. Everyone was shocked. There were rumors that someone done it as a joke. Two months later Amee and I decided to go visit that cemetery and that day was so odd. There was no vehicle around but an old bearded man sat on the ground under the tree near the Johnson family graves talking to himself holding a single red rose. We listened and heard him say, “Lindy, I loved you so much but it just couldn’t be.”

We whispered around wondering where he came from and who he was. “Till I see you again Lindy,” he said while placing the rose on her tombstone. He then walked out the back of the cemetery and disappeared into the woods.

Till this day I still remember him and that eerie moment in the cemetery. We never saw him again and Mr. Johnson’s body was never found.

Creatures Around My Home

Creatures Around My Home
Creatures Around My Home / Susie Justice

The events took place in Dunbar, WV.

I live in a 1930s home on a hill with the wooded area beyond the property, across the street a cemetery. I’ve seen deer pass by a lot and a coyote or two but nothing like this.

Day One 7/21/18: Around 11:30 PM

I encountered my worst fear tonight while taking my dog out. I happen to look up from the porch to see this animal slowly stalking Yukki, it had black mattered fur and was very shaggy, and one glowing eye (the other was covered with fur), pointed ears, and a snout of a wolf. It gave off a very heavy ominous feeling. It was huge at least three times bigger than my petite German shepherd Akita mix. I yell for Yukki to come, she chases it across the street to the graveyard, the creature never made one sound. I screech for her to come back so loud that I’m pretty sure my neighbors think that I’m nuts now. I ran in to get my phone. When I came back outside a few seconds later Yukki was sniffing the grass in my yard like nothing happened. My dog did not seem frightened or extremely protective like she does when encountering a new dog, she acted like she wanted to play.

Day Two 7/22/18: 9:00 PM

Now I am really getting freaked out! I just took my dog out at dusk she peeped but was cautious of pooping towards the back of the yard. She had an odd stance to her and was towards the front of the yard where the first incident happened, it seemed as if the woods had black fog coming from them. I put it out of my mind and said it’s getting dark. She bolted to the woods as I scream for her to come back I don’t hear a fight just a lot of breakage of branches way more than when she chases deer, like something huge, was up there. This went on for a few seconds then I just hear Yukkis footsteps close by, I yell for her. Coming from around the back of the house is a beautiful white spotted brown animal, it went to enter the woods. It was the size of a coyote but had a bobbed tail and white gleaming fur with soft brown spots. It looked like a Lynx but was the size of an adult female deer. I didn’t feel dread or fear or an overwhelming darkness like the first time. I forgot about everything for a second and just looked at this beautiful animal as it stared at me for a few seconds then left. Yukki came back about a minute later completely fine, panting.

Yukki has not gone number two for two days now. She is weary to go near the back of the yard near the woods where it happened.

The format of the story is from a sister site where I stated the first event then the second one happened so I reported it as soon I could it was not a West Virginia site and wanted to share my story on here as well. The picture was taken in the fall in the yard where the second event happened.

Bigfoot Sighting

Bigfoot Sighting
Deer Run, WV / Google Maps

In the summer of 1965, when I was 15 years old, 2 friends and I saw what may have been a Bigfoot. We were spotlighting for whitetail deer near Deer Run, a few miles from Franklin, WV. Back then it was legal to spotlight deer, as long as you did not have a gun in the vehicle.

I was riding in the front passenger seat, holding a powerful spotlight, when the light fell on what we thought at first was a very large black bear, standing on its hind legs. The creature was about 30 yards away in a field, about 10 feet below the road we were on.

At first, it just stood there and looked at us, or rather I should say looked at the spotlight. I focused the light on its face and we immediately knew it was not a bear. It had an almost human-like face. It stood about 7 feet tall and was covered with long dark hair. After about 10 seconds, it turned away from us and walked across the field towards the woods. Just before the woods was a split rail fence. The creature climbed the fence, just like a human would. Once it got over the fence, it turned and looked back at us for about 5 seconds and then again turned away and disappeared into the woods.

A few days later, we were again spotlighting and we saw it or another one that looked like it. The creature was standing between an old church and a graveyard. We only saw it for about 5 seconds, because it walked away very quickly.

At the time of these sightings, we had never heard of Bigfoot and had no idea what it was. Looking back on the events, years later, I am convinced that it must have been a Bigfoot!

Dragged

Dark Figure in Cemetery / Stock Photo

My name is Stacy and I was sixteen at the time that my friends and I had the Halloween Party in the cemetery of the Hills in West Virginia.

I’m not certain but I recall the cemetery’s name was Webb. We rode the ridges on four-wheelers and jeeps and found the most secluded scary one. There was about ten of us but by the end of the night, there were only three. We arrived and unloaded our coolers, boom boxes, pizza, and lanterns. Dallas started the music and we all started dancing and drinking (No, I didn’t drink one cup).

I was dancing with John when Kelli screamed, we all looked toward the screams and some black looking figure was rising from the grave. We all scattered around in a hurry as the black figure arose. John grabbed my hand and jerked me toward his jeep. Stephanie was on my heels but I heard hit the ground and I spun around and saw the black figure through the cemetery. Us three were the only ones that made it out of that cemetery. The cops showed up and found nothing out there but coolers. We never saw those kids again. The 7 kids were never found.
