707 Phantom
Edited by: JMoore / WVGhosts.com Editor

One of my best friends in high school lived at 707 Stout Street in Bridgeport, WV. Several instances of haunting have occurred there, even since I've been friends of the family which has only been about 4 years. The family who lives there has come to call the ghost the "707 Phantom."

One of the first occurrences happened to the second oldest brother of the family, who was about 22 at the time. He and his girlfriend were sleeping. They were stirred and his girlfriend opened her eyes to see a dark figure standing at the foot of the bed. She obviously freaked out, and he woke up to also see the apparition before it disappeared.

Another instance happened when a friend of the same brother was staying the night at the house. He was asleep in the living room on the first floor. There is a mantle and fire place in the living room. He was awakened in the middle of the night to see a shadowy figure standing ON the mantle. He flipped out and got in his car and left. He has refused to stay the night since.

On one occasion, the mother of the family was in the same living room in the middle of the day. She fell asleep watching TV. She was abruptly awakened to feel a force pressing down upon her chest. It was so heavy a force that she could not breathe. After a minute or so, the force let up and she caught her breath.

One other evening, the second youngest brother (Age 18 at the time) and a friend walked outside the basement of the house into the back yard. It was about 2am. They were talking when from the nearby trees they heard a laughing sound. They stopped talking and listened. They assumed it was a friend trying to play a prank on them. Suddenly the laugh became so loud that it shook the boys and everything around. The friend described the laughing as "demonic and so loud that it sounded like it was coming from every direction at once."

There are other stories.

The house has always been a family home. It was built by the grandfather who is still alive. The family has not been able to determine who the spirit is or what its origin is.
