Just wondering if anyone here is a MUFON member, specifically a field investigator?  I have been playing around with the idea of making it my New Year's Resolution to train and apply for a MUFON field investigator position, but I'd like to connect with others to see if its worth it.  The idea of having to pay not only for membership ($35), but for a pretty expensive mandatory training manual to be accepted, plus the fact that I am not entirely sure our WV director LIVES in WV has made me a little cautious.  It is my plan to do some preliminary work, and take a few classes on my own before deciding if its a commitment I want to attempt, but I'd love some feedback.

This kind of came about because of some strange things that multiple witnesses have seen around my new house…which just happens to be located in an area of high UFO sightings anyway.  I also figure it couldn't hurt to have some additional knowledge and training in the area, so that when my paranormal group receives inquiries into such, I can better serve the client as opposed to immediately refer them to someone else, lol.

Honestly Theresa I have never heard of them until you mentioned them. However, I don't really follow the UFO field that much. Have you tried contacting the director of the West Virginia chapter to get their insights on the organization?

I've always held MUFON in high regard…since I don't really deal with UFO stuff myself, whenever a query about UFOlogy or a report of a sighting was brought to my attention, they were the first organization I always referred people to.  However, although they aren't a "secret society" or anything like that, I honestly cannot say that I personally know of ANYONE in this area that is a member or does field work with UFO sightings.

I will have to contact the state director sooner or later, as that is part of the application process, but I was hoping to get some non-biased insight into what it might be like to actually work for the organization from the perspective of the "little people".  Before even joining, you must be referred in by an existing member, and if its going to be situation where I'm going to be flat out denied, then I'd prefer not to bother, lol.  It's not that big a deal to me…I'll continue to do some research on my own in order to answer my own questions and provide some additional insight to our clients, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over.  Still, hopefully, I can find a field investigator in this area, since part of the training is hands on with an existing investigator…and the area that I just moved to does seem to have a good number of reports coming in to the organization.
