I've always held MUFON in high regard…since I don't really deal with UFO stuff myself, whenever a query about UFOlogy or a report of a sighting was brought to my attention, they were the first organization I always referred people to. However, although they aren't a "secret society" or anything like that, I honestly cannot say that I personally know of ANYONE in this area that is a member or does field work with UFO sightings.
I will have to contact the state director sooner or later, as that is part of the application process, but I was hoping to get some non-biased insight into what it might be like to actually work for the organization from the perspective of the "little people". Before even joining, you must be referred in by an existing member, and if its going to be situation where I'm going to be flat out denied, then I'd prefer not to bother, lol. It's not that big a deal to me…I'll continue to do some research on my own in order to answer my own questions and provide some additional insight to our clients, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over. Still, hopefully, I can find a field investigator in this area, since part of the training is hands on with an existing investigator…and the area that I just moved to does seem to have a good number of reports coming in to the organization.
